About

The Halifax Celtic Festival is presented by the Celtic Cultural Society of Nova Scotia.  This is a non-profit society formed to support and perpetuate the cultural, linguistic, literary, heritage, history, and traditions of Nova Scotia’s Celtic Community.

The Society provides governance to the festival organizing committee which is mandated to produce this annual “Cultural Showcase” event. Free to the public, the festival educates and creates an awareness of Nova Scotia’s and Canada’s Celtic language-based and cultural communities (Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Cornish, Isle of Mann (Manx), and Bretons).

Objectives of event festival include:
1. Celebrating the Celtic languages and their cultural heritages.
2. Educating the attendees about the 6 Celtic Nations and their impact on Nova Scotia and Canada.
3. Support, promote and enjoy our shared Celtic languages and their cultural heritages.
4. Stimulate the Celtic heritage community and others to keep Celtic languages and their cultures alive.
5. Celebrate the Naming (founding) of Nova Scotia in 1621 by Sir William Alexander.

Message from Festival Director, Rick Grant

For the 8th time, we will host the Halifax Celtic Festival. We invite you to join us to celebrate Celtic history, languages and their cultural heritages, including music, song, dance, games, sports, dress and more. This year marks the 400th anniversary of the naming of Nova Scotia. As we lead up to the 400th anniversary, we are proud to celebrate the rich history of our diverse and beautiful province. We hope you enjoy the At Home with the 2021 Halifax Celtic Festival!
